FAQ
Here are some of our most frequently asked questions - if there is anything else you need answers to, please get in touch - we'll be happy to help!
Our Vehicles
Are your vehicles all your own?
Yes, they are! We’re proud to be able to offer our privately owned fleet of VW wedding cars that are all maintained by our highly regarded and experienced mechanics. Offering only our own vehicles to couples (rather than a broker/agency service where the agency does not own the vehicles it advertises) means that we are able to ensure that the vehicles are properly maintained and insured and that our couples know exactly what they will be receiving on their wedding day. We can therefore offer a consistently high level of service to our clients-if you book with Dorset Dubhire, you get Dorset Dubhire!
Are you fully insured?
Absolutely. Dorset Dubhire carries full hire and reward wedding insurance, public liability insurance and employer’s liability insurance. Certificates of insurance are always available to view.
Do your vehicles have MOTs?
Absolutely. Despite changes to the law that mean that older vehicles don’t have to hold an MOT, our fleet is still independently MOT’d as always. We consider your safety and the safety of our drivers to be the most important aspect of running a wedding car business.
How many passengers do you carry in your vehicles?
Our campervans are registered to carry 6 passengers (plus the driver). Our Beetle can seat 3 passengers plus the driver. Your comfort and safety is our priority.
Do you transport children?
We are able to transport children aged 3 and over in all of our vehicles but unfortunately we can’t transport children under the age of 3 in our vehicles. Little ones are very welcome to enjoy photograph opportunities with the vehicles if they’re too young to travel.
Do you have seatbelts?
Due to their age our vehicles were not fitted with modern seatbelts (some with no seat belts at all). However, we have fitted modern 3-point inertia seat belts to all front seats and lap belts to all of the seats in the rears of all vehicles. Lucy also benefits from 2x 3-point static belts in the rear.
Will an old vehicle break down?
Although our vehicles are classic cars they do benefit from having undergone full restorations meaning that they have had new/updated air cooled engines and running gear fitted. Unfortunately, any vehicle whatever its age has the ability to break down but we ensure that our vehicles are properly and expertly maintained and that any issues are dealt with swiftly. We also have RAC fleet cover, which gives extra peace of mind. Due to having a fleet of vehicles if an issue were to occur we have other vehicles to be able to offer if available and benefit from strong relationships with other wedding car suppliers.
Can we have photos with the vehicle?
Most definitely! We encourage you to make the most of your experience with our vehicles. We allow plenty of time before you set off for the venue, at the church or venue and offer the opportunity to stop off for photographs or to go out for a little drive and photos at a nearby beauty spot if you’re holding your ceremony and reception in the same place.
Do you keep your cars in a garage?
Our vehicles are all kept in our commercial business unit in Poole. The unit is used to house and prepare the vehicles for weddings and for viewings.
Can I come and see the cars?
Absolutely! We love to meet our couples and to chat over their plans and we would love to show you our fleet. It’s important that you’re happy with your suppliers in the lead up to your wedding day and a viewing gives you the chance to check that the vehicles have the space you need for you and your party. We advise viewing any wedding car you’re interested in to ensure that you’re happy with your choice and that the vehicle looks as good as it might appear in pictures!
Can you undertake more than one journey in the same vehicle?
Yes. We would be very happy to undertake more than one journey if the journey time is 10 minutes or less from one location to the other. We want to ensure that your day runs smoothly and that you are able to relax and enjoy every minute. Our extensive experience of wedding chauffeuring means that we can advise on whether multiple journeys are required and how they could impact on the flow of, and affect the enjoyment of your day. We’re very happy to quote to undertake extra journeys for brides or grooms in the same vehicle if the distances are not too great.
What will your drivers wear on my wedding day?
Our drivers wear a smart suit and tie unless you request otherwise.
Booking
How do I book with you?
We will never take a deposit from you before you have had time to consider our terms and conditions. If you are happy with your quote, the vehicle and our terms we will ask you to fill out a booking form and to return this to us. We will then send an invoice for your deposit. We advise ensuring that you read terms and conditions and ensure you have a contract with any wedding supplier you book-we would heavily advise against parting with any money until you’ve read any contract and are happy with it. Good wedding suppliers will encourage you to do this and will be more than happy to answer questions.
When do I pay my final balance?
We ask for full payment of your balance four weeks before your wedding date. We are very happy to take payments for your balance in instalments to help spread the cost.
Decorations & Drinks
Can I choose decorations for my wedding vehicle?
Definitely! We love nothing more than to make our VW girls look pretty for your special day. We have a huge selection of ribbons in many different colours and fabrics, a fantastic and ever growing choice of high quality faux flower garlands and a very large bunting collection! Our drivers also add our ‘just married’ sign to the rear window of the vehicle after your ceremony in preparation for your onward journey/photos.
Do you carry umbrellas?
Yes we do. All our vehicles carry large white umbrellas in case of rain.
Do you provide champagne or other alcoholic drinks?
Due to licensing laws we regret that we are unable to provide couples with alcoholic drinks. However, if you would like to provide your own our drivers would be very happy to serve this for you and we can provide you with glassware and an attractive hamper to enjoy it from. Our vehicles are always stocked with cans of water and soft drinks for our couples and their parties’ refreshment.
Other
How many weddings have you undertaken?
Going into 2025 we have undertaken well over 2000 weddings! We’ve loved every one of them since our business started in 2010. It’s a huge privilege to be a part of every couple's special day.
Do you do proms, anniversaries or other special occasion work?
Unfortunately we can’t offer a prom or special occasion service. We also are unable to carry out end of night pick ups or transfers to the airport etc. This is due to licensing laws that mean that anyone undertaking this type of work has to have a private hire licence similar to a taxi (operator, vehicle and anyone driving the vehicle). We have chosen not to licence our vehicles, as we want to be able to concentrate on providing the highest quality wedding car service. Wedding hire is exempt from licensing. We would advise anyone looking for a vehicle for a prom or special occasion to contact their local authority for a list of local licensed operators and vehicles to ensure that the vehicle they are booking is properly licensed and insured for this type of work.
Are your vehicles used to camp in?
No. Dorset Dubhire was set up to offer bespoke wedding vehicles to our clients so all of our vehicles have been restored with that in mind, benefitting from beautiful wedding interiors that have been crafted by local luxury marine interior specialists. Our vehicles don’t have beds, cookers and fridges or sinks which allows our couples and their parties more space to be able to sit comfortably in a truly bespoke wedding wedding car.
